PMTNM's 75th Anniversary

Overview

Each fall, PMTNM members gather for the state conference, featuring Honors Auditions, MTNA competition, lectures, workshops, an artist concert, and the Winners Recital. Officers are elected at the membership meeting, the Teacher of the Year award is presented at a banquet, and teachers from all six districts see each other in person.​​​​

Peter Takács

Pianist Peter Takács, master interpreter of Beethoven, taught at Oberlin for 48 years. He will perform in our Friday night artist's recital, judge pianists at Honors and MTNA, lecture on Beethoven, and present a piano master class.

Thomas Shoebotham

Multi-faceted performer Thomas Shoebotham is conductor of the New Ballet in San Jose, CA, and holds an MM in cello from Eastman. He will perform on Friday night's artist recital, judge strings for Honors and MTNA, and present a string master class.

Elizabeth Garland

Award-winning composer Elizabeth Garland was PMTNM's Commissioned Composer  in 2021. Due to Covid, there was no performance. This year she will be properly honored with a performance of her commissioned work.
Dalcroze Eurhythmics Class Teacher

Terri Reck

Terri Reck, harpsichordist and pianist, is a Certified Teacher of Dalcroze Eurythmics, a discovery-based approach that teaches music, rhythm and solfege through body movement, and teaches Dalcroze classes at UNM's Music Prep School.

Jacqueline Zander-Wall

Mezzo soprano Jacqueline Zander-Wall has sung leading roles with the Boston Lyric Opera, the Chicago Opera Theater, Hamburg Opera, and many others. She founded fthe Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival of New Mexico to inspire and encourage students of singing and piano in New Mexico. She is currently president of the Albuquerque Music Teachers Association.

Brian Shepard

Brian Shepard, CEO, joined MTNA in 2003. He serves on the National Music Council and is board president of the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. An MTNA Foundation Fellow, Brian remains an active musician and can often be found performing as a pianist, vocalist, or choral conductor for church and community events.
