Danfelser Piano Scholarship The Byrdis W. Danfelser Piano Scholarship is awarded annually to a piano student who studies with a member of PMTNM. The scholarship is awarded during the PMTNM state conference which is held in November. Mrs. Danfelser founded the New Mexico Music Teachers Association (now PMTNM) in 1950 and started the Student Affiliate program in 1958. The Danfelser Piano Scholarship Fund was established following her death in 1978. The scholarship is awarded to a piano student, grade school through high school, who studies with a member of Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico, Inc. The scholarship money is paid directly to the recipient's teacher in January to help cover the student's spring tuition. The scholarship application is in two parts, the first to be completed by the student and the second by the teacher. The deadline for applying is October 8. Click HERE for application. Nasi, NCTM Janet Spangenberg Weed Memorial Scholarship The Janet Spangenberg Weed Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a piano student who studies with a member of PMTNM. The scholarship is awarded during the PMTNM state conference which is held in November. Janet Spangenberg Weed was a long time member of PMTNM, a committe chair and ever-gracious hostess for board meetings and tertulias. Because of her devotion to music and this organization, her children established this Memorial Scholarship in her name. The scholarship application is in three parts. The first is to be completed by the student, the second by the teacher, and the third by one of their school teachers. Nasi, NCTM Joyce Walker Student Foundation Byron and Velma Gwyn established this foundation in 1980 in honor of their daughter, Joyce Gwyn Walker, and her commitment through the years to the education of piano students and her love and devotion to the student programs of Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico. The funds are used for higher education for students who have won through the PMTNM competitions. The foundation supports students from elementary through collegiate level. The purpose of the Memorial Outreach fund is to encourage musical outreach and awareness activities in local associations/districts.
